Dear fellow Scouters,
This has been an extraordinarily difficult year for membership with the dual challenges of the BSA bankruptcy and the ongoing pandemic. However, I remain optimistic about the future of our program even though we still have months to go before we are through either of these – because I see the enthusiasm for our program remaining!
Scouting units are adjusting to this new “normal” and still providing programs to youth in thoughtful and different ways. For example, we recently had capacity groups of Scouts enjoy the program at the new Base Camp North. Many dens are taking advantage of the Council den kits, which have everything a Den Leader needs to complete an activity. I’ve seen some fun virtual ‘at home camp outs’, exciting online merit badge courses, and the best Zoom meeting ever with a Bear den completing the Roaring with Laughter requirement.
It’s seeing this level of enthusiasm for a program that, while different from before, continues providing youth “Fun with a purpose” – which lets me know we will emerge stronger than ever before. Your determination to move forward is truly inspiring!
The character of our volunteers has demonstrated a resolve and frankly a ‘grit’ that is so indicative of what Scouting is all about. I have no doubt that with a few less challenges ahead than what 2020 dealt us – we will make Scouting grow again!
Sincerely,
Jeff Keeton
